Copper Hills Church Statement of Faith
What We Believe...
... About God... We believe in God ~ who has always been and will be forever. He is immeasurably holy, powerful, wise, righteous, good, loving and compassionate. He is one God, revealed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
... The Father... We believe that God created all things and is the source and sustainer of life. He is a God of love and in His mercy and grace, adopts as His children, all who repent of their sin and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
...The Son... We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, sent to earth to pay the price for our sin and to save us from death. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He was all-God, and all-man, yet lived a perfect, holy and sinless life. He suffered a horrible death on a cross for our sin, rose from the dead and went up to Heaven where He intercedes for all who believe. He has promised to come back again to judge both the living and the dead and to establish His eternal kingdom.
We believe in the Holy Spirit sent by the Father
...The Holy Spirit... We believe in the Holy Spirit and that He is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control each day.
These beliefs are based on:
Genesis 1; Deuteronomy 6:4-6; Psalm 139; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1, 18, 4:24, 15:26;
Romans 8:1-17, 26-27; 2 Corinthians 3:17, 5:18, 13:14; Philippians 2:6-8; 1 Timothy 3:16, 6:15-16; Hebrews 11:6; Jude 25
...About Eternity... We believe that we were all created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. The place of eternal separation from God is called Hell. Heaven is the place of eternal union and eternal life with God.
These beliefs are based on:
John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:15;
...About The Bible... We believe that God has shown us His power and deity in His creation so that we can know Him. He also shows who He is and what He’s like through the covenant relationship with his people as recorded in the Old Testament and through the new covenant through Jesus as recorded in the New Testament.
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any error and is the bench mark by which we are to live the Christian life. We believe that Jesus is the key to understanding the Bible.
These beliefs are based on:
Psalm 19, 119:105; Proverbs 30:5; Luke 24:27, 44; Romans 1:18-23; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Hebrews 1:1-2, 4:12, 8:5-13
…About people... We believe that people are created in the image of God with a free will to make moral choices. They are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates us from God. Because of that sin, we are all guilty before God and are in need of forgiveness through Jesus.
These beliefs are based on:
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Isaiah 59;1,2 Romans 5:12;
...About salvation... We believe that there is only one way to a relationship with God and that is through Jesus. The purpose of His coming was to save people from the judgment and power of sin and to reconcile them to God. Because Jesus was sinless, He provided the one sacrifice able to pay for sin and established God’s new covenant.
Salvation is God’s gift to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment a person receives Jesus into his/her life by faith.
These beliefs are based on:
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:13-14, 2:8-9; John 1:12, 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:15-28; 1 John 1:9;
...About the Church... We believe that the church is not a building, but people who have responded to the call of God through faith.
The church is one body of believers, male and female, from every nation, race and class. The head of this body is Jesus Christ. The church, joined by the Holy Spirit is what makes Jesus visible to the world. The church exists as local groups of believers and as a worldwide community of faith.
As groups of believers meet to celebrate God’s faithfulness and grace, the church is nourished and made new. In turn, the church reaffirms its faithfulness to God, builds each person up and looks to God for His will in completing its life and mission. The church is a community where members agree to be accountable in matters of faith and
life. They love, care and pray for each other, share each other’s joys and burdens, counsel and correct each other. We express this commitment to each other through membership.
These beliefs are based on: Acts 4:32-35; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18; Hebrews 10:24-25
...About Spiritual Gifts... We believe that God, through the Holy Spirit, gives gifts to each believer for the benefit of the whole body. These gifts are to be used in God’s service to build up the church and to care for others in the world.
God has created each person uniquely, with a special temperament, passions and abilities. When believers serve with their God-given gifts and talents, the church body benefits and the believer is made stronger.
God calls some people to serve the church in leadership roles. Leaders are to model Jesus in their personal, family and church life. The church recognizes leaders through prayer and is to affirm, support and counsel them with a spirit of love.
These beliefs are based on:
Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 7:7, Galatians 3:26-28, 1 Corinthians 12 - 14; Ephesians 2:11-22, 4:7,11-16; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-4
...About the Mission of the Church... We believe the good news of God’s salvation in Jesus is for all people. Jesus tells the church to make disciples of all nations calling people to turn from their own way to follow God’s way, baptizing and teaching them to obey Jesus.
With the Holy Spirit in every believer, Christians have the power to tell others of God’s salvation. The church is testimony to God’s dominion of the world. By living differently than those who don’t believe in God, the church is proof to the world as to God’s saving grace.
These beliefs are based on:
Matthew 5:13-16, 22:34-40, 28:18-20, Mark 1:15, 12:28-34; Luke 10:25-37; Romans 1:16-18; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; Ephesians 3:10-11
...About Believer’s Baptism... We believe that when people receive God’s gift of salvation, it is the next step in their journey of faith to outwardly declare what God has done in their life. Baptism by water is a public sign that a person has chosen to follow God and that they have turned away from their old life, have been forgiven of their sins and have chosen to live a life with strength from the Holy Spirit. It is also a promise to serve Christ according to the gifts one has been given.
We practice water baptism by immersion after a person has become a believer.
These beliefs are based on:
Matthew 3:13-17, 18:18-20; Mark 1:9-11; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:2-6; Ephesians 4:4-6
...About Communion... We believe that as believers we are to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus until He comes again. Just as the disciples ate bread symbolizing the body of Christ and drank juice symbolizing the blood Jesus shed on the cross for us, so we are to follow that example. This is a meal of remembrance, celebration and praise which makes believers stronger for true discipleship and service.
All those who understand the meaning of communion, acknowledge that Jesus is the Leader of their life and are in a right relationship with God and others are invited to participate in the Lord’s Supper.
These beliefs are based on:
Matthew 26:26-30; 1 Corinthians 10: 16-17, 1 Corinthians 11:23-32
...About Discipleship... We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and changes him into the image of Christ. He empowers the believer to follow Christ and to be an effective witness for Him. Each believer grows in spiritual maturity as he yields to Christ and obeys His word. The believer looks for ways to dedicate time, talents and possessions to Jesus and His kingdom. The fruit of the Spirit are more evident in the believer as he is more dedicated to Jesus.
These beliefs are based on:
John 15: 1-17; Ephesians 2:1-4;Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 12:14; 1 John 3:17-24;
